The main purpose of going to college is to make yourself better than yesterday. Whether it is to perform better academically, network with people or learn new skills and language.

Pros of Going to College

Here’s some plus points that college provide us. Because going to college is not totally wast of time and money. There are so many things that we might never get without college.

1. Learn New Things In Life

You learn a lot of things from college. Whether it is about a new language, a new project, or any kind of research work – you get to learn a lot of things which you usually don’t learn in school.

2. Personal And Professional Growth

College also helps as a platform for personal or professional growth. You get to meet new people, make new friends, and learn more about their culture. Additionally, you also get to learn more about your own culture.

3. Meet New People

While you are in college, you get to meet so many new people who come from different regions, cultures, and backgrounds. This helps you in broadening your horizons and learn new things.

4. Better Job Prospects

In most cases, a college degree is necessary for getting a good job. With a college degree, you can easily get a job in the corporate world or even start your own business.

However, today we consider skill above the degree. But still in most of the cases having a degree with a skill is a bit important and more helpful.

5. Better Salary Prospects

College degrees also help in getting a better salary. With a college degree, you can easily get a job that pays well and gives you a good lifestyle.

6. Build Self-confidence

College is also a place where you can build your self-confidence. You get to know more about yourself and learn how to tackle different challenges in life.

Cons of Going to College

As every good thing has some disadvantages. Similarly, there are many pros as well as some drawbacks of college which are as follows.

1. Tuition Fees

The biggest drawback of going to college is the tuition fees. In most cases, it is very expensive and not everyone can afford it.

2. Time-consuming

College also takes up a lot of time. You have to attend lectures, complete assignments, prepare for exams, and submit homework. This eats up a lot of your time which you could have used in other productive activities.

3. Not Everyone Needs A Degree

Not everyone needs a degree to get a good job. There are many jobs that don’t require a college degree. But still due to social pressure and job security students go to college.

There are many people who have proved that you don’t need to go to college in order to become successful. These people have played by their own rules and succeeded in life. It is all about your passion, hard work, and dedication.

4. Financial burden

A college degree is also a financial burden. Along with tuition fees, you also need to pay for other expenses such as room and board, textbooks, and other course materials.

5. Debt

If your family can’t afford the expansive college fees, you may have to take a loan. And If you take a loan…

After you graduate from college, you will be in debt. This will take a long time to pay off and might create a financial crisis in your life.

6. Unemployment

Unemployment is another concern when it comes to college degrees. According to a survey, about 80% of engineering graduate students in India do not have enough knowledge to work in the industry.

It means that most of the colleges are not teaching us the skills that are useful in real world. Even if you manage to get a job, there is no guarantee that you will keep it for a long time.

7. Employment crisis

The employment crisis is created by the fact that not everyone who has a college degree is able to find a job. In some cases, the jobs that are available do not match the qualifications of the individual.

In conclusion, I would say that college education is still important in life. However, you should also consider the Pros and Cons of going to college before making a decision.

Can Online Education Replace College?

Now, let us look at whether online education can replace college or not. Online education is a relatively new concept and has been instrumental in changing the way people learn. Since online courses give you access to a variety of information, they can be much more helpful.

However, there are certain things that can’t be replaced by online education. These include –

1. Interaction with professors: In online education, you do not get to interact with professors as often as you would get to interact in college.

2. Time spent with friends: Online education does not give you the chance to spend time with your friends often. College is a great place to make friends and learn more about them.

3. Opportunities to network: College provides you with opportunities to network with different people, who can help you in your career.

4. Opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities: College offers a variety of extracurricular activities, which help you explore your passions and develop yourself on a personal level.

5. Socialization: College is a perfect place for socialization, as you get to meet new people from different backgrounds.

6. Labs: In college, you get to use labs for experiments and this is not possible in online education.

Therefore, it can be said that online education is a great option for people who want to learn more about a particular subject. However, it can’t replace college because of the various benefits that it offers to students.

So, while online education has its own advantages, it cannot completely replace college education. You should consider both options and decide what is best for you.
